As the Home Improvement Agency for Blackburn with Darwen our priority is to keep you well, safe and happy in your home.

This additional support for people in Blackburn with Darwen who are living with dementia, a learning disability and/or autism and their carers, aims to make sure everyone manages to live in a ‘healthy home’.

What is a ‘Healthy Home’?
  • our home is the place we spend most of our time, and it can either help our health or cause problems to our health
  • if our health gets worse this can affect our wellbeing and also restrict our independence
  • Care Network works with you and with other agencies to prevent your health from getting worse or you hurting yourself because of the home you live in
  • the charity works to make sure that everyone’s home continues to be a good place to live; one that nurtures your health, wellbeing and independence
How do we help?

We understand how busy life can get, and some jobs often get neglected or pushed to the bottom of the priority list. That’s where we come in!

We will...
  • get to know and understand what you need to make your home more comfortable, warm, and affordable
  • help if you are struggling to keep your home warm or pay your bills
  • make sure you are getting the best deal on your gas and electricity bills, so you have more money to spend on other things (we regularly save people £200 a year)
  • provide advice and guidance on how to keep your home warm, free from unhealthy damp, mould and condensation, and make sure you do everything you can to prevent common accidents
  • introduce you to other local and national services who can help you more with your, and/or, your family’s unique needs, as well as any changing needs you may encounter along the way
  • introduce you to our safe trader scheme for home maintenance, handyperson repairs and more carried out by trustworthy local businesses
  • let you know about any equipment you can use to make moving around the home easier and safer
  • make sure you know about ways to reduce household bills
  • help you to identify free support and services wherever possible to help you to achieve a healthy home environment
  • check if you are entitled to any financial help (for example money to help you repair or maintain your home, grants available for heating and accessing charitable funds)
  • register you on the priority services register, so you get help if there's a power cut
  • let you know about other services and support to help your wellbeing and quality of life
  • always offer a friendly and familiar point of contact, who you can come back to time and time again
