We have recently had some reports that rogue traders are contacting people offering to carry out work on their home or do their shopping. They are then charging them unreasonable amounts of money or the work is substandard. In the instance of shopping, these doorstep criminals have persuaded people to hand over money and then never returned.

Be cautious and stay alert

Doorstep criminals and rogue traders can target anyone, particularly older or more vulnerable people. They often call "out of the blue" and can be extremely persuasive. Be very cautious and do not allow them inside your home.

We recommend that you don’t accept any job offers from people who you don’t know and who have knocked on your door and offered to do work.  If you need work doing take time to do your research, and speak to trustworthy neighbours, friends and family before making any commitment.
