Safe Trader Scheme

We are commissioned by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to deliver a safe trader scheme for vulnerable adults and carers living in Blackburn with Darwen. We have over 40+ Service Providers covering a wide range of service areas. All our service providers are local businesses, are fully qualified/experienced in the trade they provide and before being accepted onto our list of approved providers have all undergone our comprehensive quality assurance checks. We also provide a free information and signposting service. Staff on our Helpdesk have a wealth of knowledge of other services available in Blackburn with Darwen so even if we don’t provide the service ourselves we usually know who does and will happily signpost you on to the appropriate service.

How Does It Work?

  • Contact the Helpdesk by telephone or email with your enquiry.
  • Upon contact one of our advisers will chat to you about the service you require and also any broader issues that may be giving you concern.
  • If needed, we can arrange for one of our advisers to visit you in your own home to discuss your needs further.
  • Having clarified what you need, our adviser will refer you to the chosen service, such as cleaning, gardening, assisted shopping, home maintenance, decorating or a luncheon club.
  • The Helpdesk will contact the service provider who will then contact you within 5 working days to let you know they have received the referral and to discuss the details of the job.
  • All Care Network service providers will provide you with a free, written, no obligation quote.
  • Once you have received the quote, it is down to the customer to decide whether or not to go ahead with the job.

How do we ensure services are reliable?

People are often afraid to employ someone to do tasks such as home maintenance and gardening because they are afraid of bogus callers, poor quality workmanship or over-charging. Care Network takes that worry away from people. Before accepting any organisation on to our list of approved providers all businesses are carefully vetted by us and have to:

  • Have relevant qualifications/experience
  • Provide quality references
  • Have adequate insurances in place
  • Undertake a basic disclosure check (criminal records check)
  • Agree to a check being carried out on their business through the Public Protection Service (trading standards).

In addition all providers must sign up to a code of practice to deliver a high standard of service and to provide excellent customer service. All Care Network providers are issued with an ID badge and all services are monitored for customer satisfaction. If a provider fails to provide high levels of customer satisfaction we would remove them from our list of approved providers.

Complaints, Comments, Compliments

When we receive a complaint we take it seriously.  All complaints are logged and your concerns are raised with the relevant provider. The provider then has 10 working days in which to contact you to discuss your concerns and agree a course of action to resolve the issue. A copy of your complaint is also passed onto our complaints handler who will monitor the progress of the complaint. After the complaint has been fully investigated you will be contacted and given a full explanation.  If you are not happy with the outcome you have a right to request that your complaint be reviewed by the Complaints Review Panel. It is always useful to know if we are providing good services that meet your needs.  Should you want to compliment a particular service then you can do this by phone, letter or email.
